In January of 2009 Ana Rosa Garcia transitioned into the Helping Her Live Project (HHL) from her position as an educator in SUHI’s Asthma Education project. Now as an educator for HHL Mrs. Garcia facilitates breast health awareness and prevention workshops to educate Hispanic women in the Humboldt Park community. The interactive workshops aim to empower minority women on how to access mammograms, become educated in breast health and receive timely treatment if needed.
Prior to January 2009 Ms. Garcia served as a Pediatric Asthma Health Educator for SUHI for three years. As an educator for this project she completed home visits and helped parents identify problems areas and items in their homes that may trigger an asthma attack. Ms. Garcia’s main goal was to ensure a healthy environment for her clients and reduce the amount of emergency room visits due to an asthma attack.
Mrs. Garcia also has experience educating parents who have lost their children due to neglect, drug abuse or domestic violence by the Department of Children and Families. For this role Mrs. Garcia was dedicated to returning children back with their parents by facilitating education classes for a program titled, “Parents Helping Parents”.
Mrs. Garcia is a proud mother of 5 young adults and has been happily married for 30 years.
