Chela Sproles, PhD

Chandra Sproles is known to most as Chela (pronounced Chay-la).  She serves as the Supervisor of Program Initiatives of the Helping Her Live (HHL) program.  The HHL program is funded by the Avon Foundation to educate and empower African American women and Latinas in the Humboldt Park and North Lawndale communities about breast cancer and their breast health.  She has nine years of management and leadership experience, and over fourteen years of experience in health education and research.  Chela has had experience domestically and internationally in sexuality, sexual health, HIV/AIDS, youth development, diabetes, obesity, incarceration and trauma within minority populations.  She is very passionate about health disparities within the Latino and African Diaspora.  She loves to laugh (it’s an easier way to burn calories without sweating), international travel and community service.
