Professional Summary
Wanda Rodriguez joined the Sinai Urban Health Institute (SUHI) as a Community Health Educator for the Helping Her Live (HHL) project in July 2008. As a Health Educator for the (HHL) project, Ms. Rodriguez facilitates breast health awareness and prevention workshops to educate Hispanic women in the Humboldt Park community. The workshops aim to empower minority women on how to access mammograms and understand their diagnosis and receive timely treatment (if needed). Ms. Rodriguez performs a variety of duties, such as making sure HHL materials are culturally sensitve, translated appropriately into Spanish, and assisting Spanish speaking callers with the Helping Her Live Hotline. As the designated recipient of Spanish speaking calls from the hotline, Ms. Rodriguez is responsible for helping women receive free and low-cost mammograms, scheduling appointments, assisting callers in interpreting their mammogram results and answering any questions or concerns callers may have about breast health.
Prior to joining SUHI, Ms. Rodriguez worked at New Moms Inc., a faith based organization for homeless adolescent parents and their children. Ms. Rodriguez calmed and reassured many young, distressed female callers as the frontline intake worker receiving calls for the hotline. She served as a mentor for many of these high risk adolescent girls prior to joining the New Moms program.
Ms Rodriguez is an active member of Christian Fellowship Flock Church where she lends a hand in the Single Moms Ministry and also coordinates the children’s outreach program.
