| Project plan: | Stand Against Cancer (SAC) is a state funded initiative to reduce racial and economic disparities in access to breast and cervical cancer screening and treatment. SAC’s collaboration of partners includes Access Community Health Network, 25 churches and several community organizations in Chicago and downstate Illinois. They, along with the American Cancer Society, provide community education to women about the importance of early detection in fighting breast and cervical cancer. The churches then refer women to SAC community health centers and hospitals who provide clinical breast exams, mammograms, pap smears and other services free or at a low-cost to women who are Illinois residents, have limited incomes and /or no health insurance. Epidemiologists from the Sinai Urban Health Institute have led an ongoing evaluation of the program since February 2005. The evaluation assesses program implementation and impact of community outreach and clinical services for high-risk women to ensure that SAC is meeting its goals of delivering high quality breast and cervical care to its participants. |
