Christopher is a recent graduate of Pedro Albizu Campos High School here in Chicago, and incidentally Valedictorian of his class! Chris is interested in pursuing a career linking his love of mathematics with improving the health of vulnerable communities. He comes to SUHI as part of a program sponsored by Alderman Billy Ocasio of WARD # 26 in the Chicago neighborhood of Humboldt Park. The program has hired 8 college students besides Christopher and placed them in a variety of work settings for the summer. In addition to spending a few days a week here at Mount Sinai, Christopher will be meeting with Alderman Ocasio every Friday to report about what he did during the week. He will also make a presentation at the end of the program showing what he learned. Christopher will be observing what SUHI does in our efforts to improve health among the people of North and South Lawndale, Humboldt Park and West Town. His summer project will be to collect data, analyze the data and write a report on Infant Mortality and Low Birth Weight, comparing women of Chicago with women of varying races and ethnicities in North Lawndale and Humboldt Park. He will be attending Northeastern Illinois University for the fall term. |
