 Professional Summary Teena Francois joined the Sinai Urban Health Institute in July 2005 as the program evaluator for the Stand Against Cancer (STAND) program. Managed by Access Community Health Network, STAND is a state funded program to reduce racial and economic disparities in access to education, screening and treatment of breast and cervical cancer. Teena is responsible for all aspects of data collection and analysis of the program. She tracks several quality measures related to the programs’ outreach to and screening of high risk women in the Chicago land area as well as the timeliness of diagnostic services provided for women with abnormal screening exams. Teena’s primary career focus is in women’s health as well as maternal and child health. She is also interested in the research of racism and poverty and their contributions to existing health disparities. Teena presented data from Sinai’s Improving Community Health Survey regarding racial discrimination in six Chicago communities at the American Public Health Association annual meeting in November 2006. Prior to joining the Sinai Urban Health Institute, Teena worked at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, Early Intervention Institute as a research assistant. She was the co-investigator of the Immunization Practices Survey of Primary Care Practitioners in Louisiana. She also facilitated family focus groups and physician interviews for the Louisiana Office of Public Health/ Children Special Health Services Statewide Needs Assessment. In addition to her role at LSU, Teena co-founded and directed the implementation of a community health initiative for St. Mark’s Community Center in New Orleans. She authored grant proposals to both local and national private and federal funding agencies. Teena was the director of Project HYPE, a comprehensive sex education & skills building HIV, STI prevention program for African American Youth which was funded by an Advocates for Youth, Youth of Color Initiative Grant.
