 Professional Summary Yolonda Curtis joined Sinai Children’s Hospital as an Asthma Lay Health Educator in November of 2006. Ms. Curtis serves as one of the health educators for the Controlling Pediatric Asthma through Collaboration and Education (CPATCE) project. As a trained health educator, Ms. Curtis, provides specialized asthma education and asthma management to families with asthmatic children in Chicago’s South and Westside communities. She also provides case management assistance and helps bridge the gap between families and the health care system. With over fifteen years of customer service Ms. Curtis utilize her interpersonal skills when prioritizing and connecting with families. This professional expertise ensures Ms. Curtis’s relationships with families and children are a success. Ms. Curtis’s eleven year old son inspired her to become an asthma health educator. Diagnosed at age three with asthma, her son had severely uncontrolled asthma, frequently brining them to the emergency department. Through her continued asthma education she is now able to watch her son, and avid soccer player, get more playing time on the field. Ms. Curtis plans to continue in the field of asthma education because being able to exist as a form of social support where there is a critical need is tremendously self-gratifying. |
